Pain of Salvation is a Swedish progressive metal band formed in Stockholm in 1997. The group is led by Daniel Gildenlöw, who handles lyrics, primary composition, guitar and lead vocals. Their sound is characterized by powerful guitar work, a wide vocal range, a sudden shift between heavy and calm passages, intense syncopation and polyrhythmic experimentation. Another hallmark of the band is that each album is a concept album. Among the themes addressed in their albums are sexuality, war and its impact on family and humanity, environmental issues (such as nuclear power), the formation of the individual, and the nature of God, humankind, and existence. Some of their most important albums include *Remedy Lane* (2007) and *BE*. (2012). Some representative tracks include 'Linoleum', 'The Road Less Travelled' and 'Enigmatic'.
