The xx are a British musical group formed in London in 2005. Comprised of Romy Madley Croft (vocals, guitar), Oliver Sim (bass, vocals) and Jamie Smith (production, electronics), the trio gained international fame for their minimalist and atmospheric sound, characterized by simple but effective melodies, subtle arrangements and introspective lyrics. The band members met at Elliott School in London, an art school known for having formed artists like Hot Chip, Burial and Four Tet.
