Haydée Mercedes Sosa (1935-2009) è stata una cantante argentina, considerata un'icona della musica popolare latinoamericana. Nata a Tucumán, iniziò la sua carriera negli anni '60 cantando folk e canzoni tradizionali argentiniane. La sua voce potente e emozionante, insieme alla sua dedizione alla lotta per i diritti civili e la pace, la resero una figura di grande rilievo culturale e sociale in Argentina e nel mondo. Sosa si distinse per l'interpretazione di brani di cantautori come Atahualpa Yupanqui e Víctor Jara, ma compose anche alcune delle sue canzoni più famose, come "Gracias a la vida" e "Alfombra verde". Durante la dittatura militare argentina (1976-1983), Sosa si schierò apertamente contro il regime, esiliandosi in diverse nazioni. Tornata in Argentina dopo la caduta del regime, continuò a cantare fino alla sua morte nel 2009. Mercedes Sosa è ricordata come una voce potente e indimenticabile che ha ispirato generazioni di musicisti e attivisti.
