Caifanes was a Mexican rock band active in the mid to late 1980s. Considered pioneers of Spanish-language rock (Rock en Español), they challenged the dominant pop music of the time with dark lyrics and melancholic melodies. Their sound, influenced by post-punk and new wave, managed to win over a large and passionate audience. Among their most representative songs are "La célula que explota", "A la sombra del ángel" and "No dejes que". Caifanes disbanded in 1993, but their impact on Mexican music has been profound and lasting.
