Patrice Rushen (born Patrice Louise Rushen) is an American pianist, singer, and songwriter born in Los Angeles in 1954. She is known for her fusion style of jazz, funk, and soul, characterized by exceptional technical skill on the piano and a warm, melodious voice. She began her musical career at the age of seven, performing in Los Angeles clubs and collaborating with artists such as Ray Charles and The Pointer Sisters. In 1978 she released her debut album "Straight From the Heart", followed by successes like "Forget Me Nots" (1982) and "Pizzazz" (1983). Rushen was a member of the jazz group CAB, with whom she recorded the album "The First Time Around" in 1976. Besides her musical career, Rushen is also a composer of soundtracks for film and television. Among her most representative songs are "Forget Me Nots", "Pizzazz", "Number One Lover" and "My Love Is Real".
