Joan Anita Barbara Armatrading (born December 9, 1950) is a British singer-songwriter and guitarist of Jamaican descent. Considered one of the most influential folk rock artists, she has sold over 20 million records worldwide. Armatrading began her career in the 1970s with her debut album "Whatever's Written" (1972), which achieved moderate success.
