The Specials (talvolta chiamati The Special AKA) sono una band ska revival inglese formatasi nel 1977 a Coventry, Inghilterra. La loro musica combinava un ritmo ska e rocksteady danzante con l'energia e l'attitudine del punk, e aveva una posizione politica e sociale più focalizzata e informata rispetto ad altre band ska. Il gruppo è stato formato dal compositore/tastierista Jerry Dammers, con Terry Hall (voce), Lynval Golding (chitarra, voce) e una sezione ritmica. La band indossava abiti da rude boy del periodo degli anni '60 in stile mod (cappelli a tesa larga, tonic e abiti di mohair, mocassini). Nel 1979, la canzone "Too Much Too Young", il brano principale del loro EP The Special AKA Live!, raggiunse il primo posto nelle classifiche britanniche.
