The New Power Generation (NPG) was the backing band of American musician Prince from 1990 to 2013. Founded by Prince himself, the group officially debuted on the album *Diamonds and Pearls* in 1991. The name derives from a song on the album *Graffiti Bridge* (1990), but was already present in the phrase "Welcome to the new power generation" featured in the title track of *Lovesexy* (1988).
