Bauhaus è un gruppo musicale britannico considerato uno dei pionieri del genere goth rock. Fondato nel 1978 a Northampton, l'originale formazione comprendeva Daniel Ash (chitarra), David J (basso), Kevin Haskins (batteria) e Peter Murphy (voce). Il loro primo singolo, «Bela Lugosi's Dead», pubblicato nel 1979, è considerato da molti il primo brano goth rock. La canzone, originariamente di oltre nove minuti, divenne un classico del genere nonostante non abbia mai raggiunto le classifiche britanniche. Bauhaus era noto per la sua personalità teatrale e per l'abilità di Peter Murphy di interagire con il pubblico, alimentando le tensioni della folla per arricchire le sue performance.
