Hamtaro is a fictional character and the protagonist of the manga of the same name created by Ritsuko Kawai and serialized in the Japanese magazine Ciao from 1997. The story follows the adventures of Hamtaro, a small pet hamster who lives with his human Laura, an eight-year-old girl. The series was a huge success in Japan, leading to an anime television series produced by TMS Entertainment and broadcast from July 7, 2000, to March 31, 2006, on TX Network for a total of 296 episodes. The anime was then distributed in many countries around the world, becoming a hugely popular phenomenon among children.
