Louis Daniel Armstrong, known as Satchmo or Pops, was one of the most influential American jazz musicians of the 20th century. Born in New Orleans in 1901, Armstrong began his musical career playing the trumpet in the streets and participating in local music groups. In 1922 he moved to Chicago with King Oliver's Hot Five, where he developed a unique trumpet style characterized by technical virtuosity and brilliant improvisation. Armstrong quickly became a national star thanks to his powerful voice and stage charisma. Throughout his long career, he collaborated with numerous important artists, including Duke Ellington, Ella Fitzgerald, and Billie Holiday.
