Oscar Greeley Clendenning Hammerstein II (1895-1960) was an American writer, lyricist, and librettist, considered one of the most influential musical theatre authors of the 20th century. Son of theatrical impresario Oscar Hammerstein I, he began his career as a playwright and stage director before dedicating himself fully to writing lyrics for musicals.
