Ahmet Kaya (October 28, 1957 – November 16, 2000) was a poet, singer-songwriter, and a leading artist in Turkey of Kurdish background. Considered one of the most important songwriters in Turkey, Kaya dedicated his music to the fight for civil and cultural rights of the Kurdish people. His songs, often in Turkish but also in Kurdish, are characterized by a strong emotional impact and lyrics that address themes such as oppression, freedom, and identity.
