Víctor Lidio Jara Martínez (1933-1973) was a Chilean singer-songwriter, musician, theater director, and poet. Born in Santiago, Chile, he trained as a teacher of theater and music before dedicating himself fully to his artistic career. In 1973, during the military coup in Chile, Jara was arrested and murdered by the police.
