L'apparecchio del carnevale

I contorni della sua bocca
Sono come i deserti in attesa
Come faccio a mostrare amore
Se la sera è più vuota che nera.

Se non paga, gentile cliente,
Cosa mangiano i miei dipendenti?
Cosa importa, gentile stato,
Se le banche son cento o son venti?

Figlia mio torna a casa a sognare
Che domani ti faremo studiare
Le lenzuola sono ancora di seta
E le scarpe di pelle mia vera

Se sui social sei un’altra persona
Non cercare di viverla ancora
Tieniti stretto amici e parenti
Almeno quelli riconoscenti

E hai finito di reggere il palco
Sei arrivato all’ultima scena
La finzione è una finzione sincera
Ma la tua voce, la tua voce dov’era?

Se i quattrini guadagnati in un mese
Non basteranno per il materiale
Sarà il mio corpo a sostituire
L’apparecchio del carnevale.

Biografia

Melamanouche, the stage name of Paola Passarello, is an Italian singer-songwriter and musician with a theatrical background. Her songs draw inspiration from the nostalgic melodies of Neapolitan song, reinterpreting them with an arpeggiated style and open tunings that highlight her Argentine voice, capable of thinning out on high notes and becoming deeper in the bridges. Influenced by the rhythms of Sicilian and Salentine guitar, Melamanouche has studied strumming guitar and dedicated herself to the original interpretation of Rosa Balestreri's songs. Her musical training includes studying jazz with masters like Martina Zambelli, Stefano Pennini, Jacopo Delfini, and Carmelo Tartamella, artistic director of the Cremona Jazz Festival. She has also deepened her knowledge of blues and gospel thanks to collaborations with singer Shanna Waterstown. Considered the first Italian guitarist specializing in the jazz manouche style, Melamanouche is dedicated to spreading a new European swing that combines Italian bel canto, French guitar rhythms, and American scat. She performs in duo, quartet, and quintet with a repertoire of jazz standards, but her passion for theater has led her to write lyrics inspired by Django Reinhardt's melodies. She has acted in the most important theaters in Milan (Piccolo Teatro, Teatro Manzoni, Teatro Smeraldo, Teatro della Luna), demonstrating her acting and singing skills. Among her most significant collaborations are Carmelo Tartamella, Shanna Waterstown, Duved Dunayevsky, Adrien Tarraga, Fausto Savatteri, and Humberto Amésquita. She has participated in prestigious festivals such as the Milano Django Festival (2019), Borgo Jazz (2023), and Kalabriaecofest (2023). With her extraordinary talent and innate ability to move people, MelaManouche continues to amaze, confirming herself as one of the most original and versatile artists on the Italian music scene.
