Sylvie George Vartan, known simply as Sylvie Vartan, is a French singer and dancer of Armenian and Bulgarian origin. Born in 1944 in Issy-les-Moulineaux, France, she rose to fame in the 1960s as the queen of yéyé, a French pop genre influenced by American rock and roll. Considered the first French rock girl, Vartan was a pioneer for singing and dancing simultaneously on stage, revolutionizing the musical landscape of the time. Her international success led to collaborations with artists like Johnny Hallyday and Claude François. Among her most representative songs are "La Danse du Twist", "À toi", and "Comme d'habitude". Vartan continues to be an iconic figure in French music, appreciated for her stage energy and influence on pop music.
