Mort Shuman, born Mortimer Shuman (1927-1969), was an American singer, songwriter, and record producer. Born in New York to a Jewish family, he began his career as a singer in nightclubs in the city. In 1950, he moved to Los Angeles to focus on songwriting. He started writing songs for artists like Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, and Roy Orbison. Among his most famous compositions are "The Wanderer", "Little Sister" and "Love Me Tender". Shuman collaborated with producer Sam Phillips and helped define the sound of rock and roll in the 1950s. In 1964, Shuman moved to Italy to work as a composer and record producer. There he wrote songs for Italian artists like Mina and Adriano Celentano. Shuman died in 1969 from a heart attack.
