Kathy Mattea, born Kathleen Alice Mattea, is an American country and bluegrass singer-songwriter. Born in West Virginia in 1956, she began her career in the 1980s with a folk-country sound that earned her numerous successes. Among her most famous songs are "Eighteen Wheels and a Dozen Roses", "Goin' Gone" and "Where've You Been". Mattea has been awarded three Grammy Awards, including Best Country Album in 1989 for "Untold Stories". Her music is characterized by a powerful and melodious voice, poetic lyrics and an authentic interpretation. In addition to her commercial successes, Mattea has been recognized for her dedication to bluegrass music, collaborating with prominent artists of the genre such as Alison Krauss and Ricky Skaggs.
