Cet homme partageait son temps

Un jour qu'il soignait ses raisins,
Il vit venir tous ses voisins
En cavalcade à ses frontières.
Il vit briller leurs grands couteaux.
Il leur dit : "Voulez-vous de l'eau ?"
Ils répondirent : "On veut ta terre."
"En quoi vous gêne-t-il, mon champ ?"
Ils répondirent : "Allez, va-t-en !"
Il prit son livre de prières,
Il prit sa femme et ses enfants
Et son étoile d'or...
Ainsi partit le paysan,
En traversant la nuit des temps
A la recherche d'une terre.
"Mes bras sont forts, j'ai du courage.
J'accepte même un marécage... "
Il ne trouva que des barrières.
"T'es pas d'ici, t'as un accent.
Fais-toi prêteur, fais-toi marchand
Mais tu n'auras jamais de terre.
On se méfie de ton trésor,
Ton étoile d'or... "
Faute d'avoir un champ de blé,
L'homme se mit à cultiver
Son petit champ dedans sa tête.
On le vit scribe et puis docteur
Puis violoniste et professeur,
Peintre, savant ou bien poète.
"Tu fais du bruit, tu vends du vent.
T'as trop d'idées ou trop d'argent.
T'es un danger pour qui t'approche.
On va te coudre sur la poche
Ton étoile d'or... "
Et vint le temps des grands chasseurs,
Des chiens d'arrêt, des rabatteurs.
Ce fut vraiment la grande fête.
Demandez-le aux bons tireurs :
Avec l'étoile sur le cœur,
On traque beaucoup mieux la bête
Et notre pauvre paysan
Perdit sa femme et ses enfants
Et puis le cœur et puis la tête.
Il n'avait plus que son trésor,
Son étoile d'or...
Alors il traversa la mer
A la rencontre de sa terre.
C'était ça ou bien se pendre.
"Revendez-moi mon vieux désert.
- Tu sais, ça va te coûter cher.
- Tant pis : je prends !
- Tu peux le prendre."
Le temps de tracer un sillon,
Un coup de feu à l'horizon.
Il bascula dans la poussière.
