Biografia

Enrico Macias, stage name of Gaston Ghrenassia (1938), is an Algerian-born French singer considered one of the greatest interpreters of Mediterranean music. Born in Algiers to a Sephardic Jewish family, Macias began his musical career in the 1950s, singing in Arabic and French in Casablanca clubs. In 1962 he moved to Paris, where he began collaborating with important composers like Jacques Brel and Charles Aznavour. His international success came in the 1970s with songs like "My Heart", "La vie en rose" and "Les yeux noirs". Macias is known for his warm and melodious voice, his romantic and nostalgic songs that evoke the atmosphere of the Mediterranean. Besides music, Macias has been involved in philanthropic activities in favor of the Algerian Jewish community. Among his most important albums are "Enrico Macias" (1968) and "Les yeux noirs" (1973).
