Lee Konitz (Leon Konitz, Chicago, November 10, 1927 – New York, April 15, 2023) was an American jazz saxophonist and composer. Considered one of the most influential musicians of bebop and cool jazz, Konitz characterized his style with a fluid melody and free and creative improvisation. After studying at the Berklee College of Music, he moved to New York in 1947, where he collaborated with artists like Miles Davis, Gerry Mulligan, and Chet Baker. In 1949, he formed the celebrated jazz quartet with Mulligan, which revolutionized the approach to jazz music with an innovative and minimalist sound. Konitz was also a prolific composer, writing pieces for orchestra and jazz ensembles. Among his most important albums are "The Lee Konitz Quartet" (1952) and "Subconscious-Lee" (1960). Some of his most representative songs include: "Subconscious-Lee", "Lullaby of Birdland", "I'm Old Fashioned".
