The Animals were a British rock band formed in Newcastle upon Tyne in 1962. Their sound, characterized by blues and rhythm and blues influences, brought them international success in the 1960s. The group consisted of Eric Burdon (vocals), Alan Price (keyboards, organ), Hilton Valentine (guitar), Chas Chandler (bass) and John Steel (drums). Among their most famous hits are "House of the Rising Sun", "We Gotta Get Out of This Place" and "Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood". The Animals disbanded in 1966, but Burdon continued to pursue a successful musical career. The group is considered one of the cornerstones of British rock from the 1960s, influencing generations of musicians.
