Smash Mouth is an American rock band formed in San Jose, California, in 1994. The original lineup consisted of Steve Harwell (vocals), Paul De Lisle (bass), Michael Krompass (guitar) and Randy Cooke (drums). Their musical style is characterized by a fusion of power pop, ska and alternative rock, with influences from punk and surf rock. International success came in 1997 with the single "Walkin' on the Sun", taken from their self-titled album. In 1999, "All Star" became a global anthem thanks to its presence in the soundtrack of the film "Shrek". Other successful songs include "Pacific Coast Party" (2001) and "I'm a Believer" (a cover of The Monkees). After Harwell's departure in 2021 due to health issues, the band continued with a new vocalist. Steve Harwell passed away on September 4, 2023.
