Celtic Frost was a Swiss heavy metal band from Zurich. Considered pioneers of extreme metal, particularly black metal, they heavily influenced the underground music scene of the 1980s and 1990s. Active from 1984 to 1993, the group reunited in 2001 before disbanding again in 2008 following the departure of founder Tom Gabriel Fischer. Celtic Frost's musical influences are diverse: Black Sabbath, Angel Witch, and Venom contributed to their heavy metal sound, while Bauhaus, Siouxsie and the Banshees, and Christian Death introduced gothic rock elements. Discharge influenced their punk aggression. Some of their most representative songs include "Morbid Tales", "Procreation (Of The Wicked)" and "Dethroned Emperor". Their debut album, "Morbid Tales" (1984), is considered a classic of the black metal genre.
