Víctor Lidio Jara Martínez (1933-1973) è stato un cantautore, musicista, regista teatrale e poeta cileno. Considerato uno dei più importanti cantautori latinoamericani del XX secolo, Jara ha dedicato la sua musica alla lotta sociale e alla difesa dei diritti umani. Nato a Santiago del Cile, si formò come insegnante di teatro e musica prima di dedicarsi completamente alla carriera artistica. La sua musica, caratterizzata da un forte impegno politico e da melodie popolari cileni, divenne rapidamente popolare tra le masse. Jara collaborò con importanti artisti latinoamericani come Joan Manuel Serrat e Mercedes Sosa, partecipando a concerti e festival internazionali. Nel 1973, durante il golpe militare in Cile, Jara fu arrestato e assassinato dalla polizia. La sua morte segnò un momento tragico nella storia del movimento sociale cileno e la sua musica continua ad essere una potente testimonianza della lotta per la giustizia sociale.
