Grandmaster Flash, real name Joseph Robert Saddler, is a Barbadian-American DJ considered one of the founding fathers of hip hop music. Born in Barbados in 1958, he moved to the United States at the age of seven and began his musical career in New York clubs in the late 1970s. Flash is known for inventing several scratching and mixing techniques such as cutting, backspinning, and punch-praising, which revolutionized DJing and influenced generations of hip hop artists.
