Lonnie Donegan (Glasgow, April 29, 1931 – November 19, 2002) was a Scottish singer and musician considered the father of skiffle, a popular music genre in the 1950s. He began his career as a member of The Skiffle Group, a folk music group that performed in pubs in Glasgow. In 1954, with the name Lonnie Donegan and His Skiffle Group, he achieved international success with the song «Rock Island Line», a skiffle version of an American traditional song. Donegan quickly became one of the most popular musicians in the United Kingdom, selling millions of records and influencing generations of rock 'n' roll artists. His musical style was characterized by a lively rhythm, catchy melodies, and simple but fun lyrics. In addition to «Rock Island Line», other famous songs include «My Old Man's a Dustman» and «Does Your Chewing Gum Lose Its Flavour (On the Bedpost Over Night)?». Donegan continued to record music until the late 1970s, maintaining a loyal fan base. His musical legacy was recognized with his induction into the Scottish Music Hall of Fame in 2006.
