The Shirelles are an American female vocal group formed in Newark, New Jersey in 1959. Composed of Shirley Owens, Doris Coley, Beverly Lee, and Estelle Bennett, they dominated the pop charts of the 1960s with their soul-pop sound characterized by harmonious vocals and romantic lyrics.
