Jean Ferrat, born Jean Tenenbaum (1930-2010), was one of the most beloved and influential French singer-songwriters of the 20th century. Born in Lyon to a Jewish family, his music always reflected a deep social and political commitment. After starting as a jazz musician, Ferrat dedicated himself to chanson in the 1960s, finding success with songs like "La Montagne" and "Auprès de mon arbre".
