Leslie Edward Claypool, known as Les Claypool, is an American bassist, singer, and songwriter born in 1963. He is best known as the founder and leader of the alternative metal band Primus, with whom he achieved international fame in the 1990s. Claypool is considered one of the greatest bassists of all time due to his virtuosic technique and unique style, which blends elements of heavy metal, funk, flamenco, and classical music. His influences include artists such as Geddy Lee of Rush and Larry Graham. Besides Primus, Claypool has collaborated with numerous other artists, including Sean Lennon and Tom Waits. He also founded the folk-rock duo Duo de Twang with Bryan Kehoe. Some of Les Claypool's most representative songs include "Jerry Was A Race Car Driver", "My Name Is Mud" and "Southbound Pachyderm".
