Sumo was an Argentine alternative rock band active in the 1980s. Led by Italian-born Luca Prodan, the group blended post-punk, reggae, and ska influences, creating a unique sound that deeply impacted the Argentine music scene. Although it remained underground for most of its short career, Sumo was extremely influential in shaping contemporary Argentine rock. The band introduced British post-punk to Argentina, with lyrics almost entirely in English, offering a visceral counterpoint to the progressive and nueva cancion trends dominant in Rock en Español at the time.
