Chico Science, born Francisco de Assis Franca (Recife, March 13, 1966 – Recife, February 2, 1997), was a Brazilian singer and composer, a key figure in the Mangue Beat cultural movement. Born in Recife, Pernambuco, Chico Science distinguished himself for his music that blends traditional Brazilian rhythms like forró with influences of reggae, punk and hip hop. His songs often addressed social and political themes, denouncing inequalities and injustices in Brazil. Among his most famous tracks are "Aquarela do Brasil", "Mangue Beat" and "O Sol da Manhã".
