Carlos Alberto Vives Restrepo, born in Santa Marta, Colombia, on August 3, 1957, is a Colombian singer-songwriter, guitarist, pianist, and actor. Considered one of the most important Latin American music artists of contemporary times, Vives has managed to blend traditional Colombian musical genres like cumbia and vallenato with pop and rock influences. His musical career began in the 1980s performing with groups of Colombian folk music. In 1986 he debuted as a solo artist with the album "Cumbia y Son", which launched him onto the national scene. Over the years, Vives has released numerous successful albums, including "Clásicos de la Provincia" (1997), "La Tierra del Olvido" (2003) and "El Rock de mi Pueblo" (2006). His most famous songs include "Fruta Fresca", "La Gota Fría", "Cumbia sobre el Río" and "Volví a nacer". Vives won a Grammy Award in 2009 for the album "El Rock de mi Pueblo" and three Latin Grammy Awards. Besides music, Vives has also ventured into acting roles in Colombian films and television series.
