Di probabile origine ungherese, rom e sinti, ha dedicato la sua carriera al genere musicale noto in Germania come "Schlager", dal principio degli anni sessanta fino alla sua morte. Deutscher ha raggiunto il successo internazionale con il brano "Margherita" (1967), che è diventato un classico del genere Schlager.
