DJ Jazzy Jeff and The Fresh Prince is an American hip hop duo from West Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Vocalist Will Smith (The Fresh Prince) met DJ Jazzy Jeff (Jeff Townes) while trying to make a name for himself in West Philadelphia's local hip hop scene. After joining forces with Clarence Holmes aka Ready Rock C, the team became local celebrities. Holmes left the group in 1990 and sued it in 1999. The duo achieved national fame in the 1980s with hits like «Parents Just Don't Understand» and «Summertime», the latter becoming a summer anthem.
