Carlos Alberto Vives Restrepo, born in Santa Marta, Colombia, on August 3, 1957, is a Colombian singer-songwriter, guitarist, pianist, and actor. Considered one of the most important Latin American music artists of contemporary times, Vives has managed to blend traditional Colombian musical genres like cumbia and vallenato with pop and rock influences. His musical career began in the 1980s performing with groups of Colombian folk music. In 1986 he debuted as a solo artist with the album "Cumbia y Son", which launched him onto the national scene.
