Sanctuary is a thrash/power metal band active since the 1980s. The original lineup included future Nevermore members Warrel Dane and Jim Sheppard, who would later shape the sound of that group. Sanctuary released two studio albums: the self-titled "Sanctuary" in 1986 and "Into the Mirror Black" in 1987, both considered milestones of American thrash metal. Their musical style is characterized by fast and aggressive riffs, power metal melodies and a strong progressive influence. Among the most representative songs are "The Serpent's Tongue", "Into the Mirror Black" and "Die for You". Despite the band's short lifespan, Sanctuary left an indelible mark on the heavy metal music scene.
