Punch Brothers are an American bluegrass music group from Brooklyn, New York. Composed of Chris Thile (mandolin), Gabe Witcher (violin), Noam Pikelny (banjo), Chris Eldridge (guitar) and Paul Kowert (bass), the quintet is known for their original sound that blends elements of traditional bluegrass with influences of jazz, classical and progressive music. Founded in 2006 by Thile, former member of the group Nickel Creek, Punch Brothers quickly gained fame for their virtuoso performances and musical complexity. Their style is often described as "progressive bluegrass" or "classical-country chamber", with intricate arrangements and elaborate improvisations.
