James Kern Kyser, known simply as Kay Kyser, was an American musician and radio personality born in 1905 in New York City. Known for his swing music style, he led his orchestra, the "Kay Kyser's Kollege of Musical Knowledge", during the 1940s, becoming one of the most popular figures in American music of that era. His radio show, "The Kay Kyser Show", was a huge success and contributed to the spread of swing music throughout the country. Kyser was known for his bright personality and musical talent, as well as for using comedic gags and musical games in his broadcast. Among the most representative pieces of his orchestra are "I'll Never Smile Again", "Tuxedo Junction" and "Chattanooga Choo Choo". His radio career lasted until the 1950s, when he began to devote himself to other musical projects. Kyser is considered an important exponent of American swing and his music continues to be appreciated by jazz enthusiasts.
