Lee Edward Evans (1947-2023) was an American sprinter who specialized in the 400 meters. Born in Los Angeles, California, Evans represented the United States at the 1968 Summer Olympics in Mexico City, where he won the gold medal in the 4x400 meter relay with Ron Freeman, Larry James, and John Smith. He set a new world record in the 400 meters in 1968 with a time of 43.8 seconds. Evans was also the US national champion in the 400 meters in 1967 and 1968. After retiring from competition, Evans worked as an athletics coach.
