Nathaniel Adams Coles, better known as Nat King Cole (Montgomery, March 17, 1919 – Santa Monica, February 15, 1965), was an American singer, pianist, and actor considered one of the most important crooners of all time. Cole dominated the American music scene in the 1940s and 1950s with a warm and melodious voice, accompanied by sophisticated jazz arrangements. He began his career as a pianist in Chicago nightclubs before forming his group, the "King Cole Trio". The trio achieved great success with songs like "Straighten Up and Fly Right" and "The Christmas Song", which became timeless classics. In 1948, Cole signed a recording contract with Capitol Records, beginning a prolific collaboration that led him to record some of the best-selling albums of all time.
