Vybz Kartel, whose real name is Adidja Palmer, is a Jamaican singer and disc jockey born in Kingston in 1976. Also known as Addi Di Teacha, World Boss, and Gaza Emperor, he is considered one of the most influential dancehall artists of contemporary times. His music, characterized by often provocative lyrics and driving rhythms, has helped define the sound of the genre in the 2000s. Among his most famous tracks are "Clarks", "Fever" and "Romping Shop". Kartel has also been involved in legal controversies, being convicted of murder in 2014. Despite his imprisonment, he remains a prominent figure in the Jamaican music scene.
