Unkind

(Bennett)

Open hearts that never heal
And thoughts that never go
They once tried to steal away
Never let it show

Iron fist and fired eyes
No reason to unwind
This is someone to resist
It's still here in my mind
When they call us here they try
And lead us to affray
I have seen you standing by
It's always been this way
And you tell me how it couldn't get much worse

If I could find
Somewhere far away from you
You've been unkind
But I know what you're going though

Listen to the lonely breeze
My hands were always tied
When they brought you down
It was the last time that you cried
They could never capture me
Or take me through the screen
You don't need to say a word
But I know what you mean
Would you still remember if I keep you in me

If I could find
Somewhere far away from you
You've been unkind
But I know what you're going though

If I could find
(Open hearts that never healed)
Somewhere far away from you
(Thoughts that never go)
You've been unkind
(They once tried to steal away)
But I know what you're going though
(Never let it show)

Shallow, wasted, tired lives
With vices we all crave
See the wasteland disappear
There's nothing left to save
No commanding, thresholds fails
It's been this way since birth
Waiting for a love torn scream
This could be hell on earth
I can see them coming in a silver hearse

If I could find
Somewhere far away from you
You've been unkind
But I know what you're going though

If I could find
(Open hearts that never healed)
Somewhere far away from you
(Thoughts that never go)
You've been unkind
(They once tried to steal away)
But I know what you're going though
(Never let it show)

Open hearts that never heal
And thoughts that never go
They once tried to steal away
Never let it show

Open hearts that never heal
And thoughts that never go
They once tried to steal away.

Biografia

Toyah is the name of the band fronted by Toyah Willcox between 1977 and 1983. The only other consistent band member throughout this period was Joel Bogen, Willcox's principal co-writer and guitarist. Their sound was characterized by a mix of new wave, punk rock and synthpop, with theatrical influences and a strong visual component. Toyah achieved commercial success in the 1980s with singles like "It's a Mystery" and "I Want to Be Free", which became hits on the British charts. The band disbanded in 1983, but Toyah Willcox continued her musical career as a solo artist, releasing albums and collaborating with various artists.
