The Birthday Party, originally known as The Boys Next Door, were an Australian post-punk group active from 1976 to 1983. Founded in Melbourne by Nick Cave (vocals), Mick Harvey (guitar), Tracy Pew (bass) and Phill Calvert (drums), the band quickly gained popularity for their dark, aggressive and theatrical music. Nick Cave then formed a new band, The Bad Seeds, continuing to explore dark and introspective themes in his music.
