Toen ik 't tijd vond om maar weer te deserteren
En ik zei: "Ik moet nog even naar de post"
Alleen die brief is bij haar teruggekomen
En ik ben weer gewoon naar huis gegaan
Hoewel ik wel een omweg heb genomen
En wat onzeker bij mijn voordeur heb gestaan
En mijn vrouw was allerminst verbijsterd
Wat dat betreft is 't een fraaie schat
Mijn afwezigheid die had haar niet geteisterd
Ze vroeg alleen of ik mijn sigaretten had
Daarop had ik geen zinnig woord te zeggen
Waarom had zij geen woede opgekropt
En zonder verder nog iets uit te leggen
