Edwin Starr, born Charles Edwin Hatcher (1940-2003), was an influential American soul singer and musician. Born in Nashville, Tennessee, Starr began his musical career in the 1960s as a member of The Falcons group. In 1965, he signed with Ric-Tic Records and achieved his first success with the song "Agent Double O Soul". In 1970, he reached the peak of his popularity with the single "War", a powerful anti-Vietnam War anthem that became a global classic. Starr continued to record music until the late 1980s, collaborating with artists such as The Temptations and Marvin Gaye.
