wax wings
on mine fearful flier
unalarmed in gravity's charm
and starter motors hum
ballads of ballasts
am i reaching?
wax wins i surrender
and this makeshift design
will ground me
and without the air's arms
around me
i'll surrender the sky
to your dumb machine
wax wings
prepare for takeoff
with the engine beneath the ribs
and the wind sings
ballads of balance
can you hear me?
wax wins i surrender
and i know that icarus
loves me
and there are no stars
above me
i melt into the sun
Braid is an American musical group formed in Urbana-Champaign, Illinois in 1993. The original lineup came together when Bob Nanna, already known for his work with Bob Nanna, placed an ad in Maximum Rock n' Roll. The ad was answered by Roy Ewing, a drummer who brought along other musicians from past bands or projects, including Todd Bell on bass and Chris Broach on guitar and vocals. Braid made its mark in the emo/post-hardcore scene thanks to the intense energy of their live performances and the characteristic combination of guitars and vocals of Nanna and Broach. The band released several albums, including "The Age of Octet" (1998) and "Frame and Canvas" (2000), which helped define the emo sound of the 1990s. Braid disbanded in 2003 but made a comeback in 2015 with the album "Mystery of the World", proving to still be an influential and beloved band.
