In the darkness of night, huh
All the stage lights are shining bright
Hey, And we work very hard to make you stay, Raah!
But it aint no thing y'all
‘Cause I know that you can hang
We're not too expensive but you got to pay, Raah!
Some say that money is the root of all evil
It's not the love but the lust of it that makes men greedy, ooh
And you say, “You wanna go for a ride? You gotta pay the fare!
So Stop, You aint got no money
You aint got no beat
Hooo, Say you
Got no satisfaction, won't you come and work for me?
And I say to you
Can't you see baby, We don't work for free
You know you gotta live
But shit they give you stuff for free
Man these times are hard, Hey!
Don't nothin' come easy, Heee!
I just got good news, you wanna come with me?
Hey, let's go up town, I got something you should see
And my friends all say to you
They say
Got no satisfaction, won't you come and work for me?
And I say to you
Can't you see baby, we don't work for free
Finance, city lights
You gotta work to afford paradise, huh!
But if you're living in a glasshouse don't throw no stones, Raah!
Slave trade, don't get laid
You gotta get paid if you wanna go places where you've never been before
O.K Baby, Raah!
Where you been before, don't matter with me
Better save your Pennies, Nickels and Dimes
‘Cause we don't work for free, heee
Yeah!
I just got good news from the IRS, you wanna come with me?
C'mon let's go up town babe ‘Cause we all drink for free
He he he he oww
We Don't Work For Free
Gotta understand what I mean
Don't you wanna come with me?
Can't divide yourself, Let's work for free
C'mon now and I don't know what to say
I've got something that you should see
C'mon baby, gotta come along with me
‘Cause girl I'm ready for you, are you ready for me?

I'm ready so tell me are you ready for me?
(We don't work for free)
No money, we can't work for free

No money, we can't work for free
(We don't work for free)
No money, we can't work for free

Grandmaster Flash, real name Joseph Robert Saddler, is a Barbadian-American DJ considered one of the founding fathers of hip hop music. Born in Barbados in 1958, he moved to the United States at the age of seven and began his musical career in New York clubs in the late 1970s. Flash is known for inventing several scratching and mixing techniques such as cutting, backspinning, and punch-praising, which revolutionized DJing and influenced generations of hip hop artists. Among his most representative tracks are "The Adventures of Grandmaster Flash on the Wheels of Steel", "Scorpio" and "Superrappin". In 1980 he formed the Furious Five, with whom he achieved international success thanks to the track "The Message", considered by many the first true rap anthem. Throughout his career, he has collaborated with prominent artists such as The Sugarhill Gang, Run-DMC and LL Cool J. Grandmaster Flash was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2007.
