Del Shannon, born Charles Weedon Westover (1930-1995), was an American singer-songwriter and record producer. Born in Grand Rapids, Michigan, Shannon began his musical career in the 1950s playing in local bands. In 1961, he achieved international success with the song "Runaway", which topped the American charts for several weeks. The song, characterized by a memorable guitar riff and an earworm melody, became a rock 'n' roll classic and continues to be played on radio and at concerts today. Shannon released other hits such as "Hats Off to Larry", "Keep Searchin'", and "From Me to You". Del Shannon died in 1995 from a heart condition.
