Black Oak Arkansas was a successful Southern Rock group during the 1970s. Their most famous song, "Jim Dandy (to the Rescue)", featured the sensational Miss Ruby Starr. The band achieved great success on tour thanks to their energetic performances and Jim Dandy's iconic image. The band's live energy was often enhanced when Ruby Starr joined them both on stage and on numerous television appearances. Black Oak Arkansas was also the starting point for drummer Tommy Aldridge, who later found fame with artists like Ozzy Osbourne and Whitesnake. By the late 1970s, Black Oak faded away after several lineup and musical changes. Jim Dandy had also suffered a heart attack in 1980.
